2008 Highlight DVD
Completed
After another successful season for the 2008 wildcat team, the annual highlight DVD has been finished. This year the highlights feature the athletic excellence that the Wildcats displayed in their 23 games. In the 26-minute professionally appealing film, the video consists of six chapters. It begins with an intense and visually appealing introduction created by Scot Meyer with sideline perspective shots filmed by Maria Meyer. After the introduction, the offense and defense non-conference highlights are featured including the Laney and Providence playoff games. Then follows a “Conference Play” section where the terrific Pac-6 plays are revisited including all three games against Chapel Hill High School. The highlights end with a tribute to each player on the team giving their name, number, and photo of their best action shot.
Currently, the copies of the DVD are being created by Mr. Watkin at MVP Video. They will hopefully be distributed by June 2nd. Anyone is able to purchase the highlight DVD. Part of the profits will go to the Wildcat Lacrosse Program. At this time, Tom is waiting for confirmed buyers to pay the $25 fee and will not release the video until everyone has paid.
Don’t allow the great memories of the 2008 season fade, buy your highlight DVD today!
Wildcat’s Season Ends Across Town
Posted on May 25, 2008
The Wildcats finished the 2008 season with an 18-5 mark after a hotly contested game at Chapel Hill High School. The Wildcats came out fast on a Tom St. Geme extra man goal assisted by Scot Meyer. This would knot the score at 1-1 and freshman Ryan Lucey would give the Cats a 2-1 lead with a quick finish on the Tiger doorstep, beating the keeper up high. The Cats would maintain the lead through the first quarter after Scot Meyer scored on a Culen Wilson assist and Senior Matt Shaban beat the Tiger keeper with one minute remaining in the first quarter. MacKenzie Turvey played a tremendous final game, as he came out of the goal on several occasions to end scoring opportunities by himself. He ended the game with twenty two saves. Will Devlin was a force on ground balls and in the clearing game.
Great defense was the theme for three quarters, as the Wildcats took a 6-5 lead into halftime. Senior Nick Vitali scored his next to final high school goal with seven seconds remaining in the first half on a Shaban assist. In the third quarter, the Wildcat’s advantage on ground balls and face offs began to shift. Culen Wilson ended the game controlling over half of his face offs, but in the second half Chapel Hill was able to win the critical ground balls. Lucey would add his third goal of the evening in the fourth quarter, which was followed by Vitali’s final goal.
Going into the fourth quarter East had a one goal lead, which evaporated after an errant pass led to a Tiger transition goal. The Tigers would then score a controversial extra man goal, and reel off five more goals before Lucey would finish the scoring with an Elkins assist. The defense played with great determination, but in the end the Tiger offense provided too much firepower as the Wildcats could not sustain an extended offensive possession. The game marked the end of several senior’s ECHHS Lacrosse career. Tom St. Geme, Scot Meyer, Scott Elkins, Matt Shaban, Nick Vitali, Mackenzie Turvey, Daniel Long and Will Devlin concluded a solid year for the program.
East Coach Franklin Zirkle commented after the game. “We were prepared and the guys played their hearts out tonight, they were very motivated to win this game but we came up short in the end.” He went on to add, “I’m very proud of this group of young men, they did everything that was asked of them with great class. We have a young team that is now committed to an off season of hard work and improvement. This year’s team has set a high standard for the program. Tonight was a team effort, but I have to tip my hat to Mac, he played an amazing game for us, his determination was an inspiration for us all”
